About the Keurig K-Cup single-serve brewing system

Keurig is known for its K-cup single-serving brewing system, which is employed throughout their line of brewers. The company, which is based in Reading Massachusetts, has been around since 1992. Keurig has been a subsidiary of Green Mountain Coffee Roasters since 2006.

The Keurig system is based around a prepackaged serving unit called a K-Cup which contain individual servings of coffee, tea, hot cocoa, or other beverage. To use the brewer, a cup or mug is placed below the dispenser and the desired K-Cup is placed in a special holder in the unit. When the holder lid is closed the foil top on the K-Cup is pierced by a spray nozzle. At the same time the plastic bottom is pierced by a dispensing nozzle. The brewing cycle is then activated and the brewer forces a preselected volume of hot water through the grounds or other brewing material inside the internal filter of the K-Cup and into the cup below.  The whole process takes less than a minute.

There are lots of options within the Keurig Models family

Also, some commercial brewers are filled from a connected water line rather than by manually refilling a water tank as with household or small business models.
